Best Rose visits (2017-12-27)

These photos would have been impossible in April 2015 when Eunhee Park joined FSI (then TNKR). We have met her many times--I can't recall ever having a meeting where we didn't feel more inspired after meeting her. Every meeting has laughs and jokes. But she is also an extremely thoughtful lady, so eventually, the topic gets serious. She is a lady who wants to learn and enjoy her life. Eunhee is one of our ambassadors, she has even raised money for the organization and hopes for the day we will have a strong organization. She joined us the year before we became an official organization and has been part of us growing. Here's my Korea Times in 2016 as she was going through her metamorphosis. She was the first refugee in FSI to go from anonymous, nameless and faceless to a public figure. We were even on TV together earlier this year. Eunhee and FSI co-founder Eunkoo Lee analyzing a profound quote that I had presented to them. We all laugh and joke, but with Eunhee the topic

2017-12-20 Daejin knows TNKR

So much love! 2017-12-20, I was the guest speaker at a girl's high school in Seoul. They welcomed me like I was a movie star. During my speech, none of them fell asleep. Some of them were even nodding their heads "yes" when I made important points. During Q&A, they had good questions. They had read many articles about TNKR and watched some of my interviews. The topic was volunteerism in a global age. Some of the students say they want to volunteer with TNKR. What is clear is that they know what TNKR is and they are much more aware about issues related to North Korean refugees. Support TNKR: www.lovetnkr.org/donate The teachers seemed to love my speech, but they may want to clarify or explain my point that high schoolers are usually too young to be useful volunteers. Q&A is time for me to squash the dreams of people who think they are going to change the world, and do so overnight. With some of the teachers and school leaders. It seemed to be a big deal that I wa

2017-12-05 International High Schools meet TNKR

These high school students visiting South Korea did the DMZ tour. They heard a speech from a North Korean refugee who is not a public figure. They listened patiently to a long speech I gave, and they asked many questions, too. Incredibly, none of them went to sleep, despite waking up at 5 a.m. and spending the day at the DMZ

2017-12-02 Harvard of Korea annual alumni dinner

I had a great time at the annual Harvard alumni dinner. The guest speaker for the night was former UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon. When he was the head of the UN, he had to be diplomatic. In his speech at the Harvard alumni dinner, he sounded like a man letting out his frustrations. In particular, he had critical things to say about North Korea. Of course, I reminded him about FSI (then TNKR), and he complimented us on our work. I know he will never take us seriously, he operates at the international level. I informed this former Miss Korea about FSI. I handed her my card and she promised to contact me... Update 2022, I am still waiting! Mr. Dr. the honorable Jin Park! He is now the Foreign Minister of South Korea. I think from this discussion that Rufina and I decided to hold an event together.
