2017-12-20 Daejin knows TNKR

So much love! 2017-12-20, I was the guest speaker at a girl's high school in Seoul. They welcomed me like I was a movie star.

During my speech, none of them fell asleep. Some of them were even nodding their heads "yes" when I made important points.

During Q&A, they had good questions. They had read many articles about TNKR and watched some of my interviews.

The topic was volunteerism in a global age. Some of the students say they want to volunteer with TNKR. What is clear is that they know what TNKR is and they are much more aware about issues related to North Korean refugees.

The teachers seemed to love my speech, but they may want to clarify or explain my point that high schoolers are usually too young to be useful volunteers.

Q&A is time for me to squash the dreams of people who think they are going to change the world, and do so overnight.

With some of the teachers and school leaders. It seemed to be a big deal that I was visiting.

The principal welcomed me to the school like I was an old friend.

Grace was the host of the event, and she helped me feel at home!

How many speakers take a photo of the audience?

Then it was photo time!

I don't recall ever taking a selfie by myself, but I am delighted to join others when they ask me.

Chosun Monthly magazine [Korean language]

Chosun Monthly Magazine has made an announcement (in Korean) about the Seoul Honorary Citizenship award that I received on December 9, 2022.  Our Korean staffers say that the magazine is a big deal in South Korea. Here's the overall roundup of media about the award. In the next two months, I have extended interviews coming up in two different magazines, one in the USA and one in South Korea. Both articles will be in respected publications so they should raise awareness of FSI's work that your support makes possible. * * * Support FSI via Stripe or PayPal . https://donate.stripe.com/3cs28F5IAcc85IAaEF or PayPal .

Casey Lartigue awarded "Social Contribution" Award (Hansarang)

On April 20, 2017, I was awarded the "Social Contribution" award by the Hansarang Foundation.  When I was first nominated, my response was: "Hahahaha! I won't win, but it is a great honor to be nominated."  It was until I was a finalist that I took it seriously. Then instead of saying "I am honored to be nominated," I wanted to WIN ! Which I did! I was awarded a plaque, 10 million won (about $9,000), and many congratulations from many people (including other awardees that night).
