Encore! Encore! Encore speech at Daejin Girls' HS (2022-09-06)

Last night I celebrated my birthday with a speech at Daejin Girls' High School. Yesterday's speech was about Harvard University . I returned today to give a speech about volunteering. If I am ever in a bad mood then I will contact the school to ask if they will let me speak to the students. It was another great evening. The last two nights they heard me speak for a total of three hours, and they remained focused the entire time. One of the teachers at the school took many photos that she will be sending to me soon. FSI co-founder Eunkoo Lee was the interpreter although the students demonstrated that they understood most of what I said. Tonight because the topic was volunteering and we mentioned FSI, I made it a point to make sure Eunkoo (a shy lady) said something. And she did!

Birthday speech at Daejin Girls' HS (2022-09-05)

Today September 5th is my birthday! I cele brated by giving a speech at the Daejin Girls' School in Seoul. They cheered my every word and made me feel like the celebrity they think I am.  If I had fallen off the stage then they would have blamed school staff for not properly preparing the stage. They engaged with me by asking questions based on what I said during my 90-minute speech (with interpretation by FSI co-founder Eunkoo Lee). A few years ago when I gave speeches to South Korean students I could expect them to be too shy to ask questions or for them to read questions written by their teachers. But not tonight! I was introduced by one of the teachers at the school. She told them that it was my birthday. They sang happy birthday to me. After the speech, it was photo time! They had already looked me up in the world of the Internet so they think I am a celebrity. We met with one of the school leaders. He had joined the speech and said he was impressed and had learned a lo...

"Parting is such sorrow"

When we met Eunhee Park six years ago, she used a different name . Now her name has become known by many people. She was at the ABC level of English. Now she engages in high-level discussions in English about a variety of topics. She had never given a public speech. She has now given speeches around the world and been interviewed by various media outlets. As I wrote a few years ago, she went " from ABC to TED ." She was thinking about going to college--now she is a college graduate and has the graduation photos to prove it. She hadn't traveled abroad--now she is a world traveler who has visited numerous countries, as an explorer, an employee and learner. She had never done a radio interview--three weeks ago, we were live on the radio again, probably for about the fourth or fifth time. She had never been on TV. She became a TV personality and we were even on TV together a few times (" On My Way to Meet You ," on TVN's " Little Big Heroes ," Ariran...
